doc.ai - a letter from our co-founders

May 6, 2020

January 2020 marks not only the start of a new year, but a new decade as well. For some, this is the chance to start new, do something different, or make changes. For others, it’s both a celebration and continuation of something already going well. Here at doc.ai, we think the start of a new year means a little of both!

As we look back, the field of digital health and the use of A.I. tools in healthcare have grown significantly. Because these tools are accessible to larger numbers of people, A.I. and digital health have made their way into everyday life due to availability, convenience, and increasing patient engagement. Even consumer giant Apple has shown an interest in heart health and medical research.

Three years ago, we recognized the importance of A.I. in healthcare and created doc.ai with the mission to accelerate medical research, connect it to care, and to one day improve the overall well-being of the world’s populations. And we wanted to do this in a way aligned with our core values of privacy, data ownership, and value sharing. It’s been just over a year since our medical companion app became available for free, and we couldn’t be more proud.

Since then, we’ve launched three digital health trials that focus on common diseases and conditions such as epilepsy and Crohn’s disease. Excitedly, we are finalizing the data from our Allergy trial with Harvard researchers and look forward to publishing the results in a medical journal in 2020. We also launched two A.I. training modules; one for mood and one for food identification which includes new privacy-preserving techniques of helping research without your personal data ever leaving your phone. Finally, in 2019, we partnered with Stanford Medical School and the National Epilepsy Foundation and we’ve licensed our A.I. modules and built products for companies in the healthcare industry. More importantly, we’re seeing a steady flow of new users signing up for the doc.ai app from a variety of backgrounds. This is important because medical research and subsequent treatments shouldn’t be developed for one population, but for all.

We did not do this on our own, however. Our success is due in large part to the investment and participation of all our users across the United States. Although no one can deny that the changes to technology will be revolutionary for revolutionary in healthcare, the impact that engaged and motivated people to have on A.I. and digital health development is even more noteworthy. These are people like you —invested and motivated to discover ways to improve the health and well-being of us all.

As we look forward to the plans for 2020, we hope to dramatically increase the number of people invested in their health through partnering with doc.ai. Part of this will be with improving the user experience on our app with updated versions and additional health insights and the launch of an Android version of the app. You can help by not only continuing to partner with us on projects, but by encouraging your friends and family to participate as well.

In celebration of the new year, and as a thank you, we're activating a special bonus for referring friends and family to doc.ai. You’ll earn 100 points each time one of your friends or family members using an iOS device signs up for the app. Through this promotion, you ou can earn up to 1,000 points redeemable at the doc.ai marketplace for a $10 Amazon Gift Card. Open the doc.ai app and click on the banner to share.

We are thrilled about the direction doc.ai is headed in 2020. This year we’ll bring you additional trials and trainings, a mental health chatbot to help navigate anxiety and depression if you experience this, and a DNA browser to privately and securely compare your DNA variants with others which are very useful for single gene-based conditions.

We’ve come a long way together in the past three years. As another year comes to a close, we look back with satisfaction on all we were able to accomplish here at doc.ai and we look forward to the possibilities 2020 holds. Let’s raise a glass to you, to us, and to the many great things yet to come. Cheers!
